Deadly car accident shuts down California freeway

Posted on August 22, 2012 in Car Accidents

Recently, three people were killed in an auto accident on the California freeway when an SUV flew off of the side of the freeway and landed on the street below. The Los Angeles Fire Department has stated that the car accident occurred when the SUV was traveling extremely fast in the left hand lane of the freeway and careened out of control off the freeway and into a space between two parallel bridges before landing on the street below.

Five of the vehicle’s passengers were trapped inside and had to be rescued by the fire department. Tragically, three of the passengers died at the scene, including an 11-year-old girl. Two other passengers were hospitalized in critical condition and a 6-year-old girl was thrown from the vehicle. Eastbound lanes on the freeway were shut down for over an hour.

This incident illustrates the enormous consequences that can stem from an auto accident. In addition to wrongful death occurring as a result of the accident, there is also the possibility of horrific injuries inflicted by the accident. The physical and emotional fallout from an auto accident as severe as this one can be enormous.

Luckily, anyone injured or who has loved ones injured as a result of an auto accident may be entitled to just compensation for any physical or psychological injuries incurred. A plaintiff in a personal injury or wrongful death case stemming from an auto accident may be entitled to recover monetary damages from the defendant for medical expenses, lost wages and other costs stemming from the accident.

An accident victim may be entitled not only to monetary damages from the defendant and for compensation from his or her insurance company, but also to press a claim against the defendant for negligence or recklessness if such a claim can be fairly pressed. Any victim of a reckless or negligent car accident is entitled to just and fair compensation.
