Los Angeles-based company recalls possibly contaminated product

When a product is introduced in the market for consumers to use, price and effectiveness are often deciding factors for its success. However, Los Angeles, California, manufacturers and consumers should always include quality and safety in the equation for success. Otherwise, defective or unsafe products could lead to consumer injury and possibly a product liability lawsuit.

A product recall is usually done to ensure the safety of consumers when manufacturers detect errors in their product. Recently, Los Angeles-based Anhing Corporation announced a nationwide recall of their Caravelle Brand Chili Powder for possible Salmonella contamination based on the results of testing done by the State of Maryland. The recalled products have the lot numbers 560916 or 570115 and came in eight-ounce plastic containers.

Salmonella can cause serious infections that may lead to serious health problems such as diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. A Salmonella infection can be fatal for the elderly, young children and people with weak immune systems. Besides recalling the product, Anhing has stopped distributing it and is investigating the source of the contamination, along with the FDA. Consumers will receive a complete refund when they return the product to the location where it was purchased.

The damage a defective or unsafe product causes is not just limited to physical or emotional injuries. Many victims also suffer from financial troubles. Medical expenses can pile up when a victim receives treatment for injuries and they may lose wages if the victim cannot work. Filing a claim could result in compensation to cover these associated expenses.

Taking proper legal action could address the damages the unsafe product caused. A victim, with guidance from a qualified advocate, can file a legal action declaring the negligence of a manufacturer. By doing so, a victim will not only hold the negligent party responsible but may also be able to pursue compensation that will cover expenses like medical costs, lost wages and other damages.
